Who we are

About us

The Kashmir Freedom Movement (KFM) is an indigenous political party leading a civil resistance movement in Jammu and Kashmir since 1972. It strives to unite, mobilize, and empower the people, advocating for social justice, good governance.

History of kashmir Dispute

The State of Jammu and Kashmir has historically remained independent, except in the anarchical conditions of the late 18th and first half of the 19th century, or when incorporated in the vast empires set up by the Mauryas (3rd century BC), the Mughals (16th to 18th century) and the British (mid-19th to mid-20th century). All these empires included not only present-day India and Pakistan but some other countries of the region as well.

Maqbool Bhatt, a key figure in the Kashmir movement, was born on February 18, 1938, in Trahagam village, Tehsil Handwara, district Kupwara. After losing his mother at the age of 11, he grew up with his younger brother, Ghulam Nabi Bhatt, and later had half-siblings from his father’s second marriage. Historically, Jammu and Kashmir remained independent, except during periods of foreign rule by the Mauryas (3rd century BC), the Mughals (16th–18th century), and the British (19th–20th century), when it was part of broader regional empires spanning present-day India, Pakistan, and beyond.
