Kashmir Freedom Movement Demands Ceasefire and UN-Administered Plebiscite to Avert Nuclear Catastrophe

Kotli, Azad Jammu Kashmir – Today, amidst renewed missile strikes over Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and countless Kashmiri homes, Engr. Faizullah Khan, President of the Kashmir Freedom Movement (KFM), issued the following urgent appeal:

“As the skies tremble with the thunder of missiles once more, the indigenous people of Jammu and Kashmir stand at the edge of a precipice. We reject the use of our land as a battleground for state ambitions and proxy wars. Our mountains and valleys, our homes and hearths, demand no less than an end to this cycle of violence.”

Key Demands

  1. Immediate Cessation of Hostilities: India and Pakistan must halt all military operations across the U.N.-mandated ceasefire line, the international border, and every region of Jammu and Kashmir.
  2. Unconditional Withdrawal of Forces and Proxies: All armed forces, paramilitary units, and affiliated insurgent groups must be withdrawn from Kashmiri territory without delay.
  3. Implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolutions: Both governments must honour UNSC Resolution 47 and its successors by placing Jammu and Kashmir under a U.N.-administered process for a free, fair, and impartial plebiscite empowering Kashmiris to determine their sovereign destiny.

“The dark clouds of nuclear catastrophe will not pass unless the international community, led by the U.N. Security Council, holds India and Pakistan accountable to their legal obligations and moral responsibilities,” Engr. Khan underscored. “We urge U.N. member states, the Secretary-General, and concerned nations to act decisively—diplomatically, legally, and through peacekeeping measures if necessary—to facilitate an immediate cease-fire and launch the U.N.’s plebiscite mechanism.”

A Call to the International Community

The Kashmir Freedom Movement appeals to the U.N. Security Council and all nations committed to peace and security to:

  • Demand an immediate cease-fire and force withdrawals to defuse escalating tensions between two nuclear-armed neighbours.
  • Establish a N. observer mission to monitor compliance and create conditions for a genuine, U.N.-supervised plebiscite.
  • Uphold the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, whose future remains undecided more than 75 years after partition.

“Let the voice of the Kashmiri people, long silenced by the roar of guns and missiles, be heard at last,” concluded Engr Faizullah Khan. “Grant us the right to choose our future, restore our sovereignty, and provide a lasting peace that will secure not only South Asia but the entire world from the specter of nuclear catastrophe.”
