04 August 2023 Bhimber, AJK, Kashmir: The Kashmir Freedom Movement (KFM) took a momentous step today as it passed a crucial resolution, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the just cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The resolution, presented by Engr. Afzal Zia, President of KFM, and approved by the Central Executive Council, marks a significant milestone in the struggle for self-determination and freedom from oppression.
The resolution highlights the following key points:
- Challenging India’s Unlawful Actions: The KFM strongly denounces the unlawful and unilateral actions taken by India on August 5, 2019, to abrogate constitutional provisions 370 and 35-A, integrating Jammu and Kashmir into India. Such actions have been deemed in direct violation of the principles of justice and international law.
- Rejecting Partition Attempts: The KFM vehemently condemns any attempts by other countries to partition Kashmir, as it undermines the inherent rights of the Kashmiri people and the territorial integrity of the state.
- Advocating UN Resolutions: The KFM advocates for the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions, especially UN Resolution 47, which emphasizes the holding of a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir to allow the people to exercise their right to self-determination.
- Support for UNMOGIP: The KFM acknowledges the role of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) in maintaining the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and calls for full cooperation from all occupying powers to strengthen its mission.
- Withdrawal of Armies: The Kashmir Freedom Movement urges both India and Pakistan to withdraw their respective armies from Jammu and Kashmir to end the ongoing state of conflict and unrest.
The KFM Central Executive Council unanimously affirms the demands outlined in the resolution:
- Immediate Withdrawal of Military Forces: The KFM calls for the immediate withdrawal of all Indian and Pakistani military forces from Jammu and Kashmir to pave the way for peace and stability in the region.
- Recognition of Self-Determination: The KFM demands the recognition and restoration of the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to self-determination, as mandated by UN Security Council resolutions, and the holding of a free and fair plebiscite to ascertain their political aspirations.
- Restoration of Constitutional Provisions: The KFM urges the Indian Supreme Court to re-establish the constitutional provisions 370 and 35-A, which granted Jammu and Kashmir a special status, to safeguard the unique identity and autonomy of the region until the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions and exercise of the right to self-determination by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
- Protection of Demography: The KFM rejects any attempts to alter the demography of Jammu and Kashmir; as such measures are in violation of international law and the rights of the Kashmiri people.
- Human Rights Protection: The KFM demands an end to human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir, including arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and the use of excessive force against civilians.
- International Support: The KFM appeals to the international community to support the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute based on the principles of justice, human rights, and international law.
The resolution shall be communicated to all relevant international bodies, including the United Nations, to seek their assistance and support in resolving the longstanding issue of Jammu and Kashmir and ensuring the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.
